At first glance, the decor surrounding Lestat de Lioncourt in the released visuals of The Vampire Lestat appears exactly as one would imagine: gaudy, loud, excessive, and impossible to ignore.

This grandeur naturally extends to the overly decorated tour bus—less a mode of transportation than it is a giant symbol of ego and spectacle.

But...

Beneath the opulence is something broken and sad.

On Wednesday, May 20, Eric Bogosian released a picture of the ceiling of Lestat’s double-decker tour bus: a beautifully detailed light fixture in the shape of the sun.

What struck me about the design were the glass pieces stretching outward like solar flares—the shape immediately recalling to my mind the stories of Helios, Apollo, and even the tragedy of Icarus.

The design choice feels as intentional as everything on the set of The Vampire Lestat, yet this one is impossible to ignore, even if we only got a glimpse during Rolin’s extended trailer.

But for all of Lestat’s seduction, arrogance, and performance, he is an undead contradiction.

A creature of darkness who yearns for the light.

The light fixture, with its large and looming presence, lends itself to a deeper meaning in Lestat’s existence.

In mythology, Helios is illuminating, a spectacle, and an all-seeing being of power. Apollo is the embodiment of music, beauty, artistry, and prophecy. Icarus, however, represents a dangerous ascension—a desire to soar above the clouds to the very thing that causes you destruction.

And within Lestat exist all three.

As he rockets to superstardom, the imagery surrounding his ascension feels heliacal and worshipful, as if he’s trying to become one with the very thing vampires are eternally denied.

Daylight.

Humanity.

And that may ultimately be the deeper tragedy of The Vampire Lestat.

Every object, every performance, and every spotlight feels less like a narcissistic tale of a rock god and more like a razing and reconstruction—a vampire desperate to piece together the fragments of a human life he will never have again.

In this, the sun fixture itself becomes the haunting.

Not merely decoration.

But an artificial sun suspended above a creature forever locked away from the real one.

And perhaps that is the cruel irony of Lestat de Lioncourt: no matter how immortal, powerful, adored, or theatrical he becomes, some part of him still longs for the warmth of being human.

The Vampire Lestat premieres Sunday, June 7, at 9 p.m. ET on AMC and AMC+. The Vampire Lestat: After Dark premieres Sunday, May 24, on AMC+, giving viewers a deeper look into the highly anticipated new season.

The midseason finale of FROM, Season 4 Episode 5, “What A Long Strange Trip It’s Been,” revealed two major plots: Jade knows how to save the children and Tabitha remembers how to kill the dolls.

But in the heart of the two main players’ haunting was something powerful, heartbreaking, and unimaginable.

Henry’s pain.

Robert Joy delivered one of the most excruciatingly gut-wrenching performances after discovering the horrific truth about how his wife, Miranda, died.

Up until the point of knowledge, Henry was a place of peace and emotional grounding for Victor—offering solace, careful explanation, and as positive an outlook as one can have in the town.

But as the Man in Yellow stated: knowledge comes at a cost.

The cost for Henry?

Sanity.

Sobriety.

Hope.

Henry is changed forever and is now mentally in a place where he becomes the most vulnerable person in the town. And in a place where Sophia giddily exploits isolation and desperation, what more will Henry have to pay?

On the surface it appears Henry broke down at the first sign of horror; some viewers stating how he’s “weaker” than Victor because Victor survived four decades in the same nightmare.

However, Victor and Henry experienced parallel losses at the same time, in different dimensions, connected by the same tragedy; Victor haunted by the memories, Henry haunted by uncertainties.

Victor’s wife and two children disappeared mysteriously 40 years ago.

The police, his friends, and neighbors all believed he was the one responsible.

Just when maybe, just maybe, he began to believe they were gone forever, never to be found again, Tabitha showed up on his doorstep with his son’s childhood lunchbox.

As he’s thrust into this world and reunited with his son, he’s so blinded by having even one member of his family back that he never considered the horrific nature of how his wife and daughter died.

When Victor can no longer hide it, Henry learns that his wife experienced something far worse than death… and his only surviving relative had to watch.

He thus loses her again, and the 40 year dam he erected was destroyed by a single truth, by a single monster.

In 40 years, both Henry and Victor built walls within their minds in order to endure and exist without allowing the pain of the truth to cripple them. And in just five episodes, both Henry and Victor are destroyed again by the Man in Yellow.

The parallel in their lives is one that the writers of FROM carefully wove throughout all four seasons, culminating in a midseason finale that both excited and gutted the audience.

Victor can no longer pretend it didn’t happen.

Henry can no longer sit in his allegorical cave of ignorance.

Their loss, their pain, and their destruction are real.

Final Thoughts

As we are thrust into the back half of the season, we ask fewer and fewer questions yet experience more and more dread.

But dread intertwines with just one question about Henry: will the knowledge of Miranda’s death cost him or everyone else?

And as the town continues to haunt and play psychological terror games with the townspeople—leading to a climax that can only end in bloodshed—viewers must anxiously wait to see just how much Henry will pay.

FROM Season 4 Episode 6, “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter,” returns Sunday, May 31. Titles mean everything in this series and it tells us that the “hunt” may just turn inward. Whose heart will it be?

But beneath the crime and the money lies a story about the burden of family and the desperate lengths people will go to protect those they love.

And that immersive experience is punctuated by the music—carefully curated to take the audience from casual spectator to material witness.

With every scene, the soundtrack pulls you deeper into the city of Los Angeles, placing the gun right into the viewers’ hands and lodging the tension directly in their chests.

Episodes one and two are directed by Mario Van Peebles (New Jack City, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Wu-Tang: An American Saga), setting the stress zone high and allowing the subsequent episodes to push the characters and the stakes even higher.

Final Review

This duality is what makes Nemesis both artful and compelling.

Underneath the crime and the chaos are themes of family, loyalty, desperation, and brotherhood. And as the walls begin to close around Isaiah and Coltrane, the series repeatedly asks just one question:

How much of yourself are you willing to lose to protect the people and the life you love?

FROM Season 4 Episode 4, “Of Myths and Monsters,” exposed a lot with Sophia’s plan for Sara, Julie’s theories on story-walking, and Victor’s confession to Henry about Miranda’s death.

But a haunting that settled deep into the bones of the show was Abby’s presence.

A few people wondered online about Boyd’s storyline and the continued nightmares—relegating his haunting to mere hallucinations rather than a foreshadowing of something important he must heed.

But just as Jade told Boyd to stop asking “why” and to ask “why now,” FROM asks us to do the same:

Why Abby, now?

Season 1 Episode 8, “Broken Windows, Open Doors,” was the first time we saw Boyd’s entry into town and where we learned the source of his strained relationship with Ellis.

While Abby is mentioned earlier in the season, it isn’t until Episode 8 that we explore her state of mind prior to coming into town up until her mental decline and death.

Nicknamed “Iron Abby” in the Marines due to her unwavering resilience—the pillars set upon mental, physical, social, and spiritual foundations—her swift decline speaks to a psychological haunting the audience never witnessed but may be explained now in Season 4 in a foreshadowed decline of a current character.

In Season 1 Episode 8, we jump back in time to Boyd, Abby, and Ellis on a road trip with “If I Had A Boat” by Lyle Lovett playing in the background.

This is the first time we hear about the couple’s nicknames, with Boyd joking during the car ride that iron is “rigid and doesn’t know when to bend.”

In hindsight, this may speak to why she was targeted by the town, chipping away at her iron knowing she would break rather than become flexible or malleable to the reality of her surroundings.

As we continue to see Boyd haunted by her memory more and more in the current season, we have to ask just two questions:

• Are the events a warning from Abby?

• Which one of the people will succumb to her fate?

The biggest part of Abby’s storyline is that the town is just a dream. Prior to her death, Ellis mentioned her mental decline and her behavior, but while Boyd was busy being Mr. Fish and Loaves, Abby’s iron began to break.

As we learn time and time again, FROM never does anything by accident, and Abby’s looming presence is anything but.

The biggest connection with her presence, however, doesn’t connect to Boyd, but to Tabitha.

When Ellis catches her in a daze, he asks if she’s okay, and she talks about a dream she had as a little girl—a dream that Tabitha has had her entire life that speaks to the connection to this place.

This also correlates to Julie’s hypothesis that this world seeps and leaks into the real one, causing people to dream of an impossible place just to be trapped within their own nightmarish imagination at a later time.

What makes Abby’s storyline so crucial is that her fate is not an isolated occurrence.

If we allow ourselves to believe Julie’s story-walking theory about the town being the point of origin that bleeds into the real world, then Abby’s claim that “things will be fine when we wake up” is an idea that sparks the beginning of something far more sinister and dangerous for everyone in town.

And if that belief spreads, infecting the minds of other townspeople, the outcome could be catastrophic.

At this point, everything is a giant question mark as we wonder how long it will take for Boyd to recognize the signs or if the town will keep him too off-kilter to notice—just like the wolf that kept him from getting back to Abby in time.

As we head into the mid-season finale, the question is no longer whether the town can break even the strongest of individuals, but how long before the town finds the next piece of iron to break?

If Abby’s strategic haunting means history repeating itself, Boyd may already be out of time to stop it once again.

FROM Season 4 Episode 3 “Merrily We Go” may not have been the episode people wanted, but it was the filler episode that was desperately needed to drive the narrative forward.

For 3 seasons, fans have wondered about Fatima and Elgin’s purpose within the series, many believing that their convergence with the alien pregnancy is a throwaway plot to add to the chaos and confusion of the series.

But as the writers of FROM continue to prove that nothing is done absentmindedly, the framing of the story now widens its lens to the periphery for the audience to see just how Elgin and Fatima fit into the saving—or the destruction—of the townspeople.

Last season Elgin kidnapped Fatima at the encouragement of the Kimono Lady under the false promise of freedom. In this, Fatima’s infertility was used as a weapon against her—the baby being seen as a “miracle” while Fatima’s mental stability devolved under the weight of her monstrous cravings.

At the start of this season, we find out that she gave birth to the only monster that was killed by Boyd, sparking a new frenzy among those who know—the monsters cannot be killed.

In “Merrily We Go,” Fatima looks to Elgin to bury the hatchet, understanding that the town makes good people do horrible things. In this truce, she enlists him to assist her with a task.

On the surface, it appears as if this is a project of her own volition, not influenced by voices or postpartum monster-baby depression. Taking this at face value, the audience asks:

What is Fatima doing in Colony House, and how does Elgin fit into the puzzle?

When we first met Fatima, we learned that she is an artist and her passion is in creation. The final scene with her and Elgin shows him shoveling a mound of dirt into the center of her art room.

One could guess that she’s going to make something. But this leaves fans with many questions:

• What could Fatima possibly create that would benefit the people?

• Is she experiencing an aftereffect of her pregnancy?

• How does Elgin fit into her plans?

It is not a coincidence that she enlisted Elgin for her secret task. Their haunting by the monsters connects them in a way that is different than every other character pair on the show.

In other words, they are unlikely.

As the terror ensues and the monsters fight back with a frenzy they’ve never experienced, each character must move differently—make different choices, entertain nonsensical theories, and take greater risks for the ultimate reward of freedom.

FROM Season 4 Episode 4, “Of Myths and Monsters,” will be available to stream on MGM+ and with your subscription add-on with Prime Video Sunday, May 10, at 3 a.m. ET.

Independent film Corked, a short film directed by first-time Greek-Australian filmmakers Brandt Kakulas and Zach Dakis, premieres Friday, May 8, on Apple TV, promising drama, laughs, heartbreak, and regret.

This film, which premiered in Melbourne in August 2025, is a crime dramedy about an undercover cop who is sent to infiltrate one of the UK’s largest drug empires, completely unaware of the change in internal power structure that threatens the entire organization.

Written by Kakulas and Dakis, the film stars Andrew Bayliss, Sarah Codd, Declan Harrison, George Alexander, and Joe Dias.

In the gritty underbelly of the drug world, Luca (Harrison) is enlisted by his unit to gain intel on Victor (Alexander). However, an operation that begins as a simple reconnaissance turns into something far more complicated than for what Luca trained.

From this realization, Corked takes you on a journey that explores corruption, dissention, loss, and remorse. Every character struggles to reconcile these feelings through every decision they make and every bullet they fire.

But the film isn’t just a play on words. By very definition, it signifies what happens when volatile feelings are suppressed—pressurized by resentment, ignorance, and power.

Yet the film doesn’t ask you to contain the aggression. It asks, who will you become when the anger is released?

I got the opportunity to speak with Kakulas and Dakis about the creation of Corked—the ups and downs of being first-time filmmakers and where they plan to apply the lessons learned for future projects.

While Corked may be their first major project, Kakulas and Dakis approached the film with an ambition that extends far beyond its independent budget.

What started as an idea quickly evolved into a breakthrough project, fueling their energy to bring their idea to fruition.

Kakulas: “The way in which the film started was it was going to be one of those conversations over a dinner that went for like 10 minutes and that was it. It was just dialogue because we didn’t have the budget to really shoot that much else. But once we started writing…the project sort of snowballed into something else.”

Inspired by mafia classics like The Godfather and Goodfellas—incorporating Guy-Ritchie-style filmmaking as well—Kakulas and Dakis experimented, taking chances that draw you in the moment you press play.

And despite the scale of the film’s visuals, the pair heavily relied on available resources, stock imaging, and old-school editing, ultimately becoming their greatest asset and strength.

Kakulas: “The barriers to entry that used to be in filmmaking is something that just doesn’t exist anymore. You can make a film for nothing.”

Kakulas and Dakis were entirely hands-on—as is often the case in independent filmmaking—from writing and directing to lighting, and even the background actors. This level of involvement led to an appreciation of the entire production process, not just the final product.

Dakis: “We sort of fell in love with the process and met a lot of really cool people while also building our team now for this upcoming feature film.”

That growth is already carrying into their next project, a romantic drama currently in development that is expected to begin filming later this year.

Unlike Corked, which balanced crime, comedy, and violence, the upcoming project will focus more heavily on emotional vulnerability and perseverance.

Kakulas: “This next project is more in line with our personal lives, our emotions. We’re pouring a lot more of ourselves into it than Corked.”

Although the team was small for Corked, the pair have already expanded their production team, 15 to 20 collaborators, in an effort to grow, create, and build lasting relationships within the independent film industry.

Kakulas: “We decided to build a bit of a team…we’re just trying to level up one step at a time.”

That desire to “level up” is evident throughout Corked. Despite its grounded production scale, the film looks and feels like a major studio production through its intentionality of framing, its themes, and the overall cinematography.

More importantly, it feels like the work of filmmakers willing to take risks while learning in real time.

Final Review

Corked is not only a metaphor for the film; it is a testament to what happens when creators unleash their vision into the world.

It’s a film that balances boldness with humor and violence, and the ending leaves the audience asking themselves if a life of containment is worth sacrificing your desires.

But beneath its framework are the themes of family, loyalty, corruption, deception, and access. Every character moves with their own intentions and selfish needs to protect a loved one or their business. And once threatened, everyone must ask themselves:

During this process, she develops a friendship with Lovely (Adebumola) who supports her even if Etta’s path leads to dangerous roads she cannot foresee. However, in her quest for revenge, Etta creates a new family—not only in Lovely but in those she encounters along the way, forcing her to face the hard decision about choosing a path from which she can never return.

Across all nine episodes, M.I.A. takes you into the underbelly of Miami—crime, drugs, parties, illicit business—where those who smile and look clean in the daytime turn into monsters under the night sky.

And in that world, those same themes—family, loyalty, corruption, deception, and access—stop being abstract ideas and become the very concrete forces that shape decision Etta makes.

So the question then becomes:

Will Etta be consumed by blind revenge or find a path toward a better future?

Final Review

M.I.A. is daring, spicy, and revitalizing. Shannon Gisela perfectly balances boldness with vulnerability, anguish, and quiet power—a feeling that takes flight within a young woman who feels she no longer has anything to lose.

For fans of films like Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and Kill Bill, M.I.A. takes its rightful place next to them—introducing a new protagonist amongst legends of women action heroes.

All nine episodes will air at once Thursday, May 7, on Peacock, and, in a bold move, NBC will air the pilot episode as a special telecast on Thursday, May 14, at 10 p.m. ET.

Lestat is a character forged through tragedy, loneliness, and violence; yet, he exists in spite of his trauma as a persistent light.

The light that made Nicki vicious.

The light that made Armand envious.

The light that made Gabrielle/a disappear.

The light that made Louis both overwhelmed and afraid.

And in the fandom, as in the books, this very light lives and breathes within polarizing conversations that end in Lestat being mischaracterized as egotistical or reduced to surface-level sexual objectification that removes him from being a victim of lifelong sexual abuse.

But he’s more than what one can capture in a condensed and non-nuanced conversation.

Though he runs from his pain and uses various performances to hide the scars, Lestat endures above all else.

The Vampire Lestat—premiering Sunday, June 7, on AMC and AMC+—learned as a young boy to push through physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, looking toward the “bright side” as a beacon for survival.

Wolves.

His father.

His brothers.

His mother.

Every scar they carved in his soul nestled deep within—taking up space in his psyche but never enough to darken the joy that he knew to be on the horizon.

Then came Magnus.

And Lestat’s horizon became death.

Yet, he was denied—turned against his will and left to figure out life as a new creature all on his own.

A familiar dalliance that mirrors his human life.

So he does what he knows how to do:

Endure.

However, with years for audiences to process and dissect Interview With the Vampire frame by frame, line by line—and Lestat’s character distorted and diluted through altered memories—many fans still reduce his trauma to that of his caricature on the train in Season 1 (you know the scene).

Why is that?

Is it hard to digest that Lestat is both villain and victim? Or does the current characterization eclipse an open mind for him to exist as a whole being?

Or is it easier to reduce him to something palatable to avoid sitting with the discomfort that he is capable of both harming and hurting?

Perhaps it is not a misunderstanding but an internal war of either accepting the labyrinth that is Lestat versus the alternative: realizing everything you thought you knew to be true is false.

For Lestat, his existence seems governed by something far more inevitable—an unrelenting law of cause and consequence, where every action demands a response, and every wound echoes long after it is inflicted.

And for almost 300 years, Lestat has reacted in ways that were both harmful to himself and to those he loves most.

Now, with the tour, it’s all the same.

A reaction to betrayal.

A reaction to vampire threats.

A reaction to being misunderstood and finally taking the steps to set the record of his existence straight.

But at what cost?

Many fans have waited decades for The Vampire Lestat to transform from text to screen, and it is finally his time to shine.

During interviews, Rolin Jones, and even Sam Reid himself, said that Season 3 will not be a season that paints Louis as a liar, nor will it set out to undo what the audience already knows.

It is a reframe—an alternate perspective that opens viewers up to see the truth behind the “monster” that lives inside their heads.

To peel back the vampire bit by bit until we uncover the man within.

All Lestat asks, and all he’s ever wanted, is for you to listen—but what happens when listening means accepting the parts of him you were comfortable misunderstanding?

Swapped makes its debut today, May 1, on Netflix, and it is a film that confronts perspective to make room for truth.

Starring Academy Award winner Michael B. It’s a Freaky Friday of animalistic proportions and just as fun for the entire family to enjoy.

Where Trope Meets Depth

Ollie (Jordan) and Ivy (Temple) are natural sworn enemies in The Valley, but after an ill-fated run in with a magic pod, they turn into the very creature they despise the most: each other.

But what starts as a film with the traditional trope of “let’s learn how hard it is to walk in your shoes so we learn a lesson and switch back” quickly turns into a film about access, resources, stereotypes, and ignorance.

The heart of the film is rooted in the childlike wonder of making new friends and doing everything your parents tell you not to do—hanging out with the “wrong crowd,” jumping off things you shouldn’t, and staying up way past your bedtime. However, that adventure wraps itself warmly in a beautiful lesson of community.

The Dangers of Stereotypes and Assumptions

The performances by Jordan and Ivy are bright, the chemistry coming together beautifully on screen as Ollie's and Ivy’s friendship blooms in spite of their differences. They rely on one another’s strengths, explore where their weaknesses can actually be used to their advantage, and through their actions, they prove to the other creatures of The Valley that no one needs to be enemies; everyone can live in harmony.

But stereotypes and ignorance rear their ugly heads—animals in The Valley are not willing to see beyond old tales and rumors to accept the truth that they’ve been living a lie the entire time.

Everyone’s hyperfocus on their disadvantages within their corner of the forest blinds them to the unity that lies ahead when stepping outside your comfort zone to ask for help from someone who doesn’t look like you.

And, in true family-film animated fashion, that is what makes Swapped shine.

But all isn’t well in The Valley. In every corner, an unknown source eradicates the natural resources, causing a community of creatures to suffer. The animals blame each other and their groups for the lack of food sources, but Ollie and Ivy discover a more insidious reason.

In the race to rescue the forest, they must confront an uncomfortable truth within themselves—blame.

Blaming the self.

Blaming the other.

Blaming the universe.

Final Review

Swapped is an adventure you never want to leave.

Brilliant Minds returns Wednesday, May 27, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, and fans of the series will not be disappointed.

The procedural medical drama returns with the final six episodes of Season 2, beginning with Season 2 Episode 15, “The Missing Person,” which according to NBC is about,

Navu Mau (Baby Reindeer, Generation) is set to guest star in the return episode alongside the talented cast—adding to the chaos and the medical mysteries of Bronx General.

“The Missing Person” is written by Daniela Lamas and Will Ewing, and directed by Michael Goi.

When the Bough Breaks

Before the hiatus, Season 2 set the tone of a psychological breakdown of many patients—infusing psychological diagnoses that manifest in physical medical events, bringing Dr. Carol Pierce (Tamberla Perry) into the heart of Season 2’s major plot.

During Episode 14, “The Invisible Man”—when the staff and patients of the hospital were in a state of emergency due to an accidental carbon monoxide leak—Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) spiraled beyond his usual mania. This resulted in a confession to Carol about Sophia (Sarah Steele) that led to Carol realizing what we’ve circled for the past 3 episodes:

The Mind is a Powerful Thing

The point of Wolf’s pending breakdown is brought out by two major life events:

• Noah’s return (Mandy Patinkin)

• The breakup with Josh (Teddy Sears)

These series of events, and their back-to-back proximity of occurrence, leads Wolf to manifesting Sophia as a means to regain control over his life.

The problem: he doesn’t know she’s not real.

Season 2 opens in Hudson Oaks, run by Dr. Amelia Frederick (Bellamy Young), with an ominous foreshadowing of Wolf’s mental decline. But what started as promising theories of an undercover investigation for insurance fraud (we’re still on to you, Amelia) quickly devolved into a revelation of epic proportion.

So, what does this mean as we return to the season?

A few things.

Carol is now aware that Wolf is in a mental and emotional decline. But on the heels of Wolf meeting Josh’s new beau, Beau (Marco Pigossi), there is something deeply and emotionally excruciating that looms ahead.

For a man with face blindness, who goes through the world not seeing faces but with the uncanny ability to see beyond the surface of what people show him, no one in his life sees him.

His wants.

His needs.

His love.

Nor his pain.

Final Thoughts

While we await a Season 3 renewal announcement (fingers crossed), Season 2 promises to go out with medical alarms blaring.

Imperfect Women is one of the best television adaptations in existence.

The show, adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Araminta Hall, takes a psychological thriller about three women—best friend’s Nancy (Kate Mara), Eleanor (Kerry Washington), and Mary (Elisabeth Moss)—and turns it into a masterclass of deception, perception, and loyalty.

While the explosive and revealing finale rattled fans everywhere, it’s the performances that cement the impact of the series.

What Kerry Washington, Elisabeth Moss, and Kate Mara crafted as Eleanor, Mary, and Nancy—best friends of 25 years—is nothing short of remarkable.

From the very beginning, you immediately feel that Mary and Eleanor love Nancy, quickly excluding them from the list of suspects by episode 2. However, the intricacies of their delicate relationship unravel in ways that forces the audience to confront the gray lines of morality, backstabbing, and boundaries within friendships.

For decades, the women circled in one another’s orbit—learning each other’s deepest secrets, most painful scars, and brightest dreams. But as each episode brings you into the psyche of the women, who they are outside of one another’s gravitational pull, we find that the secrets are far darker and more harmful than we know—to themselves and to one another.

As the events of episode 5-8 play out, Howard (Corey Stoll)—Mary’s husband—stands out in a chilling performance of power, narcissism, and victim. Howard’s rise from “that’s just my best friend’s husband” to the insidious monster he actually is shows just how perfectly crafted the writing is for Imperfect Women.

In a dramatic and horrific shift, the series opens the audience’s periphery, highlighting the blind spots we have in our daily lives to the people we love the most—ultimately impacting how we make decisions and people’s perception of us, even when their contemptible actions are not our own.

Howard’s revelation proves how society continues to see a woman’s value and perfection in the eyes, the actions, successes, and failures of her husband. For Mary, this ebb and flow, the rollercoaster of their marriage, shows the heinous ride she’s been unable to disembark for over a decade.

The chemistry between Elisabeth and Corey make the finale worth it as the narrative takes a deadly turn—exposing Howard for who he is and the control he’s carefully constructed during the course of their marriage.

But in that deadly turn comes something exceptional:

Mary’s imperfection becomes her superpower.

The very insecurities that cripples her undergoes a metamorphosis within her core through the sheer determination of a mother and a best friend—one who knows there is nothing she won’t do for the people she loves, even at the sacrifice of her own self.

Final Thoughts

Imperfect Women shatters the rose-colored lenses of friendship, leaving the fragments of perfection and duty in its wake to make way for truth, vulnerability, and forgiveness.

FROM Season 4 Episode 1, “The Arrival,” opened with a bang and ended with an epic character reveal: Sophia is the man in the yellow suit.

There were already questions circulating about his ability to walk in the daytime when all of the other monsters go underground, only to surface at night to feed. However, with the added shapeshifting element one must ask:

Who has he been throughout every lifetime?

Now as this season’s antagonist Sophia, played beautifully and ominously by Julia Doyle, the enemy puts the entire town at a disadvantage that they never saw coming.

As we’ve stated before, the best part about FROM is the audience having more information than the characters—you watch in horror knowing you cannot save a single soul.

But there is both a knowledge and absence of knowledge about the talismans that it seems only Sophia possesses—leaving both the audience and the characters in the dark about their mystic abilities, undermining all we think we know about them.

In this episode, Kenny gives the “tour” and shares the information about the talismans protections against the monsters. When he ends the tour by explaining the talisman, he has to stop Sophia from curiously pulling it down, stating how “it only works when it’s hanging.”

But seeing as Sophia freely walks in and out of the various buildings, one must wonder:

Is this true?

In Season 3, when Randall was surrounded by the beings holding the talisman, one of the creatures mocked him saying, “oh sweetie, that’s not how it works.” And with Tian Chen’s death—along with many other instances (the Colony House slaughter as well as Megan in the pilot episode)—we know that the talismans protections fail once a creature is let inside, regardless of hanging at the threshold or not.

As Sophia embarks on her grand journey as this season’s “big bad,” will we learn more about the talismans?

And in the episode, was their natural invitation inside the safety of the walls the “invitation” she needed, rendering the talismans powers useless from the very start?

So far, there was no indication of any hesitation or fear of a mystical repercussion when crossing the threshold. But in true FROM fashion, this could be a ruse (let’s not forget the Fatima door handle scandal of Season 3) to trick the audience into not believing what we see with our own eyes.

Considering all information and clues live in the past, one must go back in time—specifically to the episodes with Boyd’s discovery, and every episode the talismans didn’t work, in order to find the answers.

The Verdict

FROM lives to torture the audience—hiding pieces of the puzzle in plain sight, even if we do not yet know how crucial that image, item, or scene is.

But much like Tabitha and Jade, the answers to the audiences questions may very well lie in the past too.

If the series is about reincarnation and living the same nightmare on a loop, did we already find the answers to their questions in Season 1?

Is the end actually the very beginning?

It’s time to say the quiet part out loud.

From Pulitzer to penthouse, the transformation we’ve all been waiting for revealed itself fantastically in the new The Vampire Lestat trailer on Wednesday, April 20.

Simply put: I am excited to see The Vampire Molloy.

And if Eric Bogosian’s infectious and palpable excitement about Daniel’s story arc during last year’s press junkets wasn’t enough for you, just wait until you see him in his new form.

In the Anne Rice book The Queen of the Damned, Daniel is made a fledgling by Armand at the age of 32 to keep him from dying due to excessive and destructive drug use.

After his turning—with the ability to reinvent his life—Daniel was ready to embrace his new vampiric life. However, in AMC’s reimagining, nearly everything changes.

Daniel survives the initial interview with Louis and lives out a full life. Was it a life still riddled with drug use and pain that drove his family away and led to two divorces?

Yes.

But it was a life…right?

We are reintroduced to him on our screens some decades later in a second interview with Louis. But gone is the frightened and tearful boy we saw in Season 2 Episode 5.

Daniel is sharper.

Wiser.

Sober.

And ballsy.

Now sits a man who has lived enough life and heard enough lies in order sift through the charades to find the truth at any cost.

The aging up of this character, along with a “Devil may care” attitude as he accepts the second interview, shifts the original narrative into something exciting—vibrating in the backs of our minds as we ponder one thing:

Who is he now?

The similarities in book Daniel’s turning and series Daniel’s turning are rooted in Armand’s secondary motivation:

Saving the life of the man he’s loved in secret and in silence for half a century.

But there is where the similarities end.

In Eric, we find a smug, arrogant (deserved), and daring man who’s faced death so many times that his new awakening comes as a great boon in his otherwise inconsequential life.

In this is where the questions stir in the pit of my stomach, making me crave to see just the kind of vampire an older (but young) fledgling can be.

With the blood of an elder vampire running through his veins, Daniel simmers with a power that is an affront against The Great Laws. He also possesses a wisdom that neither Armand, Lestat, nor Louis possess given they were turned before having the opportunity to truly experience life as mortal men.

Mix that with his personality and propensity to dig and twist and take aim at your deepest shame, this becomes fertile ground for extraordinary Dark Gifts to bloom.

Can he fly?

Can he produce flames from nothing?

As a journalist, does he possess a natural primary affinity for the Mind Gift?

Or does something unknown, and far more powerful, lurk beneath—the likes of which even he will not be able to fathom…for now.

While the audience craves the “Devil’s Minion” development between Armand and Daniel—and so does the cast—I’m left wondering just how far the writers will go when it comes to them finally facing one another after Armand’s rolling stone exit in Dubai.

Armand is surgical with the Mind Gift, possessing a level in the likes of that of an ancient witch and yet…

A human.

“The boy” carved through his mask like a flaming sword through pliant flesh.

Now, as a vampire, how much deeper will he go?

Final thoughts

A character that pushes every button, crosses every line, and says all the wrong things on purpose makes himself visible on our screens in a way we both despise and admire—and he’s just getting started.

The subtle glimpse of him in the halls helping Lestat in a vicious vampire attack only scratches the surface of who The Vampire Molloy has become.

And we want more of it.

AMC+ released the long awaited trailer for The Vampire Lestat and it is everything and unlike anything fans expected.

As the latest upbeat new TVL song “Dancing With Myself” plays in the background, we open with the trailer introducing the fans to the real Lestat—his story, his words, his way.

The itch that’s been festering in the backs of our brains is finally scratched, as we see familiar scenes from previous teasers as well as never before seen footage of reckless abandon and carnage.

It is both overstimulating and overwhelming.

But then again, that is the vampire himself, is it not?

Chaos ensues as we watch Lestat traverse this new lifestyle with internal (and external) demons walking beside him—images of being literally dragged into his past to current vampire threats, some of whom find their end at the hands of a rabid Lestat and a hauntingly dangerous Louis.

This is him.

This is them.

In their monstrous and unhinged glory.

With a glimpse of Armand’s warning of Lestat’s exposure, to Baby Jenks’ monologue about mortality, to a scared band that wonders if they can even survive in Lestat’s presence, to that kiss, The Vampire Lestat promises one thing and one thing only:

It’s going to tear our hearts out.

Final Thoughts

The brightness amongst the dark hour is an illusion meant to lure us into a season that is heartbreaking, haunting, traumatic, and utterly glorious.

This summer it’s time to hear his story.

Written and directed by Nana Duffuor, Rainbow Girls is a short film that follows three Black trans women (Tati, Angel, and Gemini) who stage heists from high-fashion stores in order to survive in the vast growing gentrification of San Francisco.

The film has been featured in the 2025 Iris Prize Official Selection as well as the 2025 Out on Film Festival. As of this review, it is also listed on YouTube as Short of the Week.

The cast includes Jai Stephenson, Sis Thee Doll, Céline Jackson, Maxi Zubi, and Nava Mau.

The film opens with bright colors, some cardio, and a comedic element that pulls you into the story right away. But as we dive deeper, something heartbreaking and beautiful begins to take shape.

The shoplifting is positioned as a symptom of a larger problem that plagues the trans community, specifically Black trans women. As society advances, these women in our community are forever on the edge of protection—rights, livelihood and life in general always at risk of being snuffed out.

What Duffour managed to create—and what the cast performed extremely well—is the heart of what filmmaking is about: navigating complex conversations through a lens that makes it easier to understand, digest, and provoke change.

Final Review

Rainbow Girls is funny, grounding, and fabulous.

What is clear from this film is that this story is not just about fashion, heists, and thrills. It’s about being bold and taking risks to live the life you deserve.

The planet Mars is a cold, rocky, terrestrial desert planet known for its rich palette of red-orange, butterscotch, tan, and golden-brown hues. Ancient civilizations also deemed Mars the god of War.

One look into the hypnotic irises set inside one hauntingly beautiful head of a butterscotch, tan, and golden-brown vampire makes you walk boldly and confidently into the orbit that is his war zone.

And as AMC continues its barrage of mini clips—including a release date for the official The Vampire Lestat trailer—one clip rang loudly amongst the chaos:

Armand.

And the background is not lost on the audience at all.

Color depiction in Interview With the Vampire/The Vampire Lestat lives in the very DNA of the series and, as Armand is seen in the short clip through the lens someone’s semi-conscious state, the sterile cold blue and white hues feel just as cold as the death stare looking back at us—a stark contrast to the warmth in Season 2, but very reminiscent of the essence of “Rashid” in Season 1.

And as the audience is held captive by his gaze, something creeps through the screen, suspending us in five seconds of the torture of his making:

Fear becomes yearning.

Tension becomes release.

The heavy breathing becomes our own.

Five seconds.

Five seconds gives room for all self-preservation to melt away like the skin from a sun-kissed vampire.

Fives seconds creates the opportunity for Armand’s stare to penetrate the walls of our minds—unlocking our deepest fears and our darkest desires to plant seeds of safety and security.

One must ask:

Is this how Louis felt that day?

We know what it looks like from the outside looking in—a predator sinking sweet venom into our bloodstreams through the pin-pricks of his teeth, paralyzing us and dissecting us from the inside out.

But in the grip of those fiery and war-filled eyes the audience is lulled, yet again, into the illusion of Armand.

Who we see in this clip is the true monster, the perfect mask that warps and wobbles under the weight of pretending to be kind for too long.

He is evil.

He is beautiful.

He is life.

He is death.

He is The Vampire Armand.

The official social media pages for The Vampire Lestat announced an official trailer release for Wednesday, April 22.

Another day, another teaser, another moment for the entire fandom to abandon their day jobs to grovel at the feet of one Lestat de Lioncourt.

Over the past few days, mini clips have been released sporadically on linear television and the AMC+ app. Fans have screen grabbed and brightened the tiniest of imagery into oblivion just to feel his god-like presence.

But the wait is over.

Today, the teaser shows Lestat in what appears to be a studio with a tattered copy of Interview With the Vampire—the very book where he boldly and angrily scribbled “NEVER FXCKING HAPPENED” (train scene, anyone).

Here it all burns to the ground as Lestat lights the novel ablaze, letting his intentions be known that he will destroy every rumor in both the human and the vampire world as he embarks on his own self-destructive journey to “vampire enlightenment.”

This journey will consist of pains we have only ever imagined in our minds—now come to life in Rolin Jones’ and the writing teams’ hands—and uncharted pleasures that take shape in the form of Lestat’s essence upon the grand stage.

The Vampire Lestat fans have been shamelessly begging for promo, more teasers, a trailer and more for almost a year now and AMC did not disappoint.

Agonizingly, AMC has been drip-feeding the audience their own un petit coup, and the time between feedings have gotten shorter and shorter. From the ominous “nothing to prove” clip (which fans have deciphered as a cover song), to the announcement of a new song release on April 23, to Lestat being awakened by an ominous siren-like call (is it Magnus or Marius?!?!), back to a clip of Lestat doing sinful things that makes us all think viciously lascivious thoughts, we are divinely unwell.

It’s too much.

It’s not enough.

Don’t stop.

It’s All About the Fandom

One thing about the marketing and teasers is extremely loud and clear:

Lestat knows his fans catapult his success.

In-universe ads in the real world, interviews with TV Insider complaining about his music producer Daniel Hart, and the presence of the band on our streaming platforms brings the fandom into the show without ever auditioning for a spot in front of the camera.

Fans take the stage—front and center—consistently keeping #TheVampireLestat trending for the Brat Prince to soak up just how desperate the people ache to see him float from the raptors, capturing their attention without ever using the Mind Gift.

His voice.

A microphone.

And the ability to make his body do ungodly things brings fans into a rapture of their own choosing.

It’s mesmerizing.

It’s addicting.

It’s insanity.

But as the great Beyoncé once said:

“You are the visual, baby.”

I would not be surprised to see real tweets in the show with Lestat basking in the audience’s thirst for just a drop of his attention. If so, this would skyrocket the already frenetic energy into something uncontrollable, uncontainable, and unimaginable.

From the safest meadows of simple “him” tweets to the most lewd descriptions of lust, The Beautiful Unwell make it known that they will clamor for Lestat with zero thought, pride, guilt, shame, or consequence.

And what—other than the blood of his Saint Louis—feeds Lestat’s need for validation more than reckless, cavalier, impulsive, and heedless fan behavior…

From Lelio to Rock God, he feeds on the attention as much as feeds on blood, and fans are but willing donors keeping the immortal being endlessly satisfied.

Louis once described Lestat as a monumental and catastrophic natural disaster—a hurricane unable to be confined, contained, or held within the boundaries of a script.

But it is the fans who are the true hurricanes that cannot be scripted.

From “Sex and the City” to “Pet and the City”

Plaza, who is both a co-creator and voice actor in the series, loosely pulls from her own personal experience of a breakup scenario that involved a cat being caught in the middle of it all.

Going for an authentic feel and light homage to early 2000s New York, Kevin turns “Sex and the City” into “Pet and the City” as Kevin, now single, must find his own identity and sense of belonging away from his humans.

In an interview with TODAY.com, Plaza tells them:

“It just feels like a classic show. It almost has this ‘Golden Girls’ kind of vibe, where you get this group of cats that all live together and they all have their romantic shenanigans and stuff, but you always end up back at Furrever Friends, where they all live.”

What makes this series especially unique is that the world and language of the animals and humans exist in the same space—making Kevin even more hilarious, as now every animal and critter has an opinion on the breakup.

A sponsored event he was clearly forced to participate in, Lestat annoyingly directs its ending and leaves the room—his presence and power felt long after he went to yell at whomever convinced him to sign this contract.
