‘Born to be Wild’ on Apple TV+ Sheds Light on Endangered Species
6 small younglings. 1 shared destiny.
Born to be Wild on Apple TV+ is a 6-part docuseries, narrated by Hugh Bonneville, that follows the tale of 6 endangered species across 5 different countries, and their human foster parents who work hard to keep them safe—from birth to adolescence—in order to facilitate their repopulation. This educational series takes us from Northeast India all the way to Spain, documenting the caretakers’ obstacles in introducing these younglings back to the life of the wild. Born to be Wild was executive produced by Isla Robertson, Alex Williamson, and Lucy van Beek with Tom Payne as the showrunner.
Premiering on the platform Friday, December 19, this show aims to continue to raise awareness surrounding the dangerous effects of hunting and poaching animals whose existence is critical to the security and stability of our ecosystem. Each episode gives you an intimate view into the fragility of the younglings’ lifespan, the work and diligence from the care teams that it takes to raise them, and the fears of releasing them into their own natural habitats to face unknown predators—not knowing if they’ve been prepared well enough to tap into their own killer instincts.
Born to be Wild showcases the lives of a moon bear cub in Northeast India names Sagalee, an elephant calf in Zambia named Wamwayi, an African penguin chick named 198 off the South African coast in Cape Town, a ring-tailed lemur pup in Madagascar named Asara, 2 cheetah cubs named Kabo and Khumo, and an Iberian lynx kitten in Spain named Una. This project is a part of Apple TV+’s growing nature programming, as Tailfeather Productions and Offspring Films gives us an inside view into the life of the wild.
The goal of the docuseries is to inspire hope, resilience, and spotlight the importance of human intervention in preventing animal extinction. Although human nature plays a part in the destruction of many natural habitats, Born to be Wild focuses on repairing the bonds between man and animal, showing how even the smallest of efforts on our part can make the greatest change.
All 6 episodes of Born to be Wild will be available to stream Friday, December 19, on Apple TV+. Check out the trailer below.
