The hell hotel musical (YES, MUSICAL) series is back and as hellish as ever with season 2 of Hazbin Hotel. Created by Vivian Medrano and produced by A24 and Bento Box, this series stars Ericka Henningson, Stephanie Beatriz, Keith David, Kimiko Glenn, Amir Talai, Joel Perez, Jeremy Jordan, Michael Kovach, and Christian Borle. Charlie Morningstar (Henningson), the princess of Hell, is forever the optimist and wants to find a way to redeem the lost souls of Hell in order to stop Heaven’s annual extermination. She enlists her girlfriend Vaggie (Beatriz) and less-than-enthusiastic “friends”—Angel Dust (Kovach), Husk (David), Alastor (Talai), Niffty (Glenn), and occasionally her father Lucifer (Jordan)—to work at the hotel, create promotional videos, and use word-of-mouth to convince the members of Hell to stay in her redemption hotel.
The finale of season 1 saw us in an all out battle between Heaven and Hell, with the angels (led by Adam) moving the extermination up drastically in order to keep Hell in line. This move specifically targeted Charlie whose preachings were convincing enough to get souls to actually believe they could be redeemed. Heaven, with no clue on whether the claims were true or not, wanted to stick to their traditions and prevent the uprising by bringing a battle against Charlie and the dominion of Hell. In a startling turn of events, Adam was taken out by Niffty, and Sir Pentious (Alex Brightman) sacrificed his life for Cherri Bomb (Krystina Alabado), thus granting him redemption and his angel wings—shaking the very foundation and staunch beliefs of the angels, that maybe they have been wrong this whole time.
The Power of Three
Season 2 centers on the Vees—Vox (television), Valentino (adult film), and Velvette (social media)—who use manipulation tactics, subliminal messaging, and fear-baiting to seize control of Heaven at the expense of Hell’s unstable and uncertain economy post-battle. This plot is fueled by Charlie’s accidental empowerment of Hell’s occupants—many seeing Hazbin as the place that encourages revenge rather than a haven for souls to find redemption. This brings us to a musical-filled political fight between the major players of the realms—Heaven and the Vees, with Charlie on the outside trying to stop an all out war.
Surrounding the pending doom are stories rooted in deep themes—punishment versus redemption, good intentions versus actual results, the power of media to tell a story, and truth. Season 2 highlights how easy it is for a population in a state of unrest to connect with the people in power who appeal to their deepest fears and most basic motivation: feeling safe. The frequent exterminations and the death of Adam afforded the Vees the opportunity to exploit their feelings for selfish and personal gain. Facing this powerful trio Charlie finds herself against a formidable machine, working tirelessly to the bone, to change the narrative before the souls she loves perish under the deceitful influence of the Vees.
Music is Universal
The heart of Hazbin Hotel is a story of redemption, that every soul has the opportunity to change their outcome if they do the work. It also highlights how people can be so blinded by their core values and beliefs that they refuse to see the world through the lens of those on the other side—driving us farther apart through judgement rather than closer together through acceptance. This is all punctuated by songs that accent the storyline perfectly. Written and produced by Sam Haft (platinum-certified artist and songwriter) and Andrew Underberg (composer and songwriter), the music ties an otherwise wild and audacious storyline together in a format to which everyone can relate, while challenging everything we think we know about redemption and forgiveness.
It was announced on October 10, 2025 at New York Comic Con that the soundtrack for season 2 will be available digitally on November 19 and in physical form on November 21. Cast members from the show performed songs from seasons 1 and 2, delivering the ultimate fan experience. The concert will be available to stream on Prime Video at a later date.
