'X-Men '97' Season 2 Trailer Unleashes a War That Threatens the Collapse of Our Heroes
The X-Men are scattered across time and must overcome division and loss before Apocalypse destroys the future forever
“We are back, baby.”
The trailer for X-Men ‘97 Season 2 released Wednesday, May 27, and immediately thrusts the audience into chaos—the X-Men divided and scattered across time from the beginning of Apocalypse’s reign in the past to the height of his rule in the future.
His goal? Simple.
Strike the X-Men at their most vulnerable time in their existence: the 90s.
This long-awaited season comes on the heels of a Season 1 that saw a divide amongst the X-Men: Magneto’s warnings versus Professor X’s teachings and the destruction and dissension it caused.
That dissension now appears to be the exact weakness Apocalypse intends to exploit.
“This isn’t just about us. It’s about everyone we’ve lost.”
The trailer lets viewers know that this is more than a battle across time and space; it is a battle for the very existence of the X-Men themselves and what they ultimately represent.
Even after Magneto brutally bent the metal within Wolverine’s body to his will in Season 1, Wolverine appears in the final frame of the trailer in all his feral glory.
Season 2 will demand the mutants put their differences aside and allow their strength, rage, and unity to fuel their battle.
But unity has always been their greatest weakness, shining a beacon so bright that it calls Apocalypse to the very moment of either collapse or victory.
If the X-Men cannot overcome internal fractures, they may face a future worse than loss: extinction.
And what is a world without the X-Men there to protect it?
X-Men ‘97 Season 2 premieres Wednesday, July 1, only on Disney+. Check out the trailer below.
