Harlan Coben’s ‘Lazarus’ Brings the Thrills and the Chills
Blurring the line between reality and delusions
Prime Video brings you a dark mystery thriller that makes you question your reality in Lazarus. An original series by Harlan Coben, Joel Lazarus, a forensic psychiatrist played by Sam Claflin, comes back to his hometown after hearing about the death of his father, Dr. Jonathan Lazarus, a psychiatrist played by Bill Nighy. Upon his return, childhood trauma begins to resurface as his father’s death triggers events surrounding the unsolved murder of his twin sister from over two decades ago. Throughout the six episodes, this series will take you down a dark and hallucinogenic path that toes the line between the living world and the dead as Joel fights to learn the truth about his father’s death.
Lazarus is a limited series that explores the themes of family trauma, repressed memories, unresolved grief, and sanity. Joel must navigate years old cases in pursuit of the truth which makes him question those closest to him and, most of all, his own father. The closer he gets to the truth, the more he realizes that the web of deceit runs wide and deep. These discoveries threaten the very foundation in which he built his life, his practice, and his memories of his own family.
As you come to the end, you realize six episodes are not enough as plot twist after jaw-dropping plot twist leaves the ending open for exploration—surprise suspects and a killer that you never see coming. As of now, Lazarus is a limited series with no talks for a Season 2 but one must wonder, where does Joel go from here? Lazarus premieres on Amazon Prime Video Wednesday, October 22. All six episodes will be made available to stream.
