‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ Gets a Sequel, New Title, and New Director
Wedding bells are in the air for the First Son and the Prince
Fireworks are in the air for Red, White & Royal Blue fans—starring Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez—as the New York Times bestseller gets the green light for a sequel, Red, White & Royal Wedding. While the first film was directed by Matthew Lopez, the sequel will be helmed by Jamie Babbit (Only Murders in the Building). Julie Rapaport, head of film, production, and development at Amazon MGM, stated “we couldn’t be more excited to continue that journey with Jamie Babbit at the helm — her sharp comedic sensibility and heartfelt storytelling make her the perfect director to build on the magic of the first film, in which Matthew López beautifully brought to life from Casey McQuiston’s beloved book” (Variety). The energy with the entire creative team, cast, and crew behind the sequel is palpable as the excitement for a continued love story blooms.
Love Him and Let Him Love You
Red, White, & Royal Blue is the romcom adaptation we did not know we wanted and it quickly became everything we never knew we needed in a film. Claremont-Diaz (Zakhar Perez) and Prince Henry (Galitzine) not only must navigate being in the political spotlight of their respective countries, but they must navigate their increased responsibilities in the face of a budding romance that threatens cultural traditions. While the storyline itself is gripping enough to bring you to the screen, what makes you stay is the way the film boldly, yet carefully, navigates the love between two young men without sensationalizing their romance to fit a stereotypical narrative. They share, they explore, and they question their own identities through the same romantic lens that many romcoms before them have done with heterosexual partners. The script is gracious to its characters, offering them the safe space to be seen as just two people in love.
Red, White & Royal Blue is available to stream now on Amazon Prime Video. Currently, there is no information on a production schedule nor release date. However, if you simply can’t get enough of the Royal Couple, allow their love story to unfold in your imagination with the novel, available on Audible, Kindle (for free with Kindle Unlimited), or anywhere you purchase books.
