When the Hunter Becomes the Hunted
Just when you thought Sipho was the most dangerous enemy in Joe’s path, a lion emerges from the trees to take her seat on the throne.
Average Joe Episode 3, “Choose the Lion,” opened in a tense standoff between the friends, and with Sipho hot on their trail, now is not the time to fall apart.
But in a move no one saw coming, we find that Sipho is not the man audiences think he is, and suddenly, the entire atmosphere changes.
While Sipho has grand dreams of restoring power to his lineage, to be revered as a god just as he reveres his father, the truth of his status reveals he’s simply a pawn, a version of a foot soldier caught in the manicured claws of the real boss.
The heroin that Teddy stole in Season 1 traced all the way to Cape Town, Africa, and, up until now, placed Joe, Cathy, Leon, and Touch on the path of the Russians.
But after Joe learns that Cathy and Leon set it all up just to get them there to get more heroin—after it was stolen from Teddy’s stash house—audiences now learn that Teddy is mixed up in a scheme far more dangerous than Joe can even fathom.
What started as an unlucky lick with the potential to change their lives for the better now comes at a high cost.
$35 million too high.
A cost that not only unknowingly rests on our group’s shoulders, but also on Sipho’s head.
The Lion, The Man, and the Ultimatum
“Do you have any idea what it must’ve taken for a woman to represent the various factions of the Afghan poppy collective, what I must’ve endured versus what I could provide?”
Sipho finds himself in a room with a woman who’s endured far worse than he could ever inflict in his lifetime.
His arrogance led him into the room for negotiation.
Her endurance swallowed his ego like a lion with fresh meat.
With just the snap of her finger, the power display stills Sipho right where he sits—an exchange that marks the turn in the entire series.
And as we spoke of Joe inheriting his father’s sins, it seems Teddy inherited the sins of a drug god—one who harbors more control over multiple landscapes and people than we can count.
What started as a half-baked plan to simply hop into Cape Town for heroin and money now splits Joe, Touch, Leon, and Cathy in multiple directions—each chasing their own agenda after Leon’s and Cathy’s betrayal.
But what they don’t know is all their paths lead to one lion’s den.
And she is hungry for everything she is owed.
